YouTube upgrades today…

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

YouTube is currently in the process of updating their service. We have had sporadic reports today that this has caused issues with some of our apps resuming YouTube sessions upon startup. This error is temporary. If your session is logged out, or if our framework is unable to resume your session, you will be presented with an error message.

If you see this error – video playback and other functionality should continue to function normally, it is only the community functions (rate, comment, subscribe, etc) that will be affected.

Of course, there may be other sporadic outages while YouTube performs this maintenance (and, perhaps in the days following if any “bugs” are discovered). If you see any other error messages, during this transitional time, don’t panic – our apps will resume normal function once YouTube is back to normal operation.

Updated Apps available (Service Releases).

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

As of last night/this morning, you would notice that there are pending updates  available in the app store for apps using our Vlogger framework.   The new updates carry the following versions:

  • Unofficial iJustine 1.6
  • Unofficial SDTV 1.4
  • Unofficial PhillyD 1.4
  • Unofficial AnnoyingOrange 1.2
  • Unofficial ShayTards 1.1

There is no new functionality in these releases, however, we are recommending that everyone update to these new versions.  In these latest versions, we have slightly optimized the session-resume procedure for those who have saved their YouTube credentials, and we have fixed two small (and rare) issues with the login process that cause our framework to misbehave.

Please update to these latest versions to ensure you’re up to date with our newest code!  Also, you can check the version of the app(s) running on your device at any time by looking at the “About” screen (usually on the “More” tab).  The applciation name and version are shown there.  Compare that with the versions that are seen in the “More Apps” screen – which always reflects our latest versions, to determine if you are up to date.

Thanks for using our products!

GeekUtils gets a shout out from ShayCarl

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

With the release of our Unofficial ShayTards app, we were pleased to wake up Saturday morning with a shout out from ShayCarl.

We’re glad to see the attention that our apps are beginning to get.   They really do make following your favorite ‘tuber so slick and easy.  Check them out, and as always – check the “More Apps” and “Dev Blog” screens frequently to see what’s new from GeekUtils!

Unofficial ShayTards is now available!

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Due to popular demand, we’ve released a new app for the ShayTards family of YouTube channels.

An important note (since ShayCarl posts videos nearly every day) is to mention that once Shay uploads a new video, YouTube must process it.  Our application will automatically display the latest video as soon as it is available for mobile devices.  Until it is available for mobile devices, we cannot play the video – that’s not a limitation of our app – it’s a limitation of YouTube.  You would notice that those videos also wouldn’t play back on the built-in YouTube app on your device. When a video is currently still being processed, the play icon will look like this:

Video Still Processing

Unfortunately, we already saw a 2 star review in the app store where someone blames our app about the lag-time mentioned above.  Please, if you have any questions or concerns, e-mail us using the “About” link inside the app prior to leaving a bad review.  We’ll either find a way to make you happy, or will explain why something works the way it does if it is out of our control.

Thanks!
