Happy Holidays and Thank You’s

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

As we come up upon the holiday season, I just wanted to take a moment to say Happy Holidays and best wishes to all.

I also wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all of the downloads and support. Since January, our free apps have logged over 8.5 million unique sessions across nearly a half million downloads, and we are now averaging one app usage every 2 seconds worldwide. This is amazing and very humbling for a tiny company like GeekUtils – I can’t possibly thank everyone enough for giving us a chance and installing our apps on your device.

We couldn’t get to that point without partnering with some great YouTube celebrities, and we thank all of those who have given us the opportunity to work with them to provide their official applications into the app store.

Finally, I want to send a quick thank you to everyone who has taken the time to contact us using the “About” tab in any of our apps. Whether it be a user asking how to use a particular feature in our apps, or contacting us to make a feature suggestion – we appreciate that you are taking time out of your schedule to share your comments. In the end, it’s only by interaction with our valuable users that we can continue to add new features and functions, and make our apps into the experience that works well for everyone.

Updated: Known Facebook Outage

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Looks like the facebook connect site has a certificate issue. What does this mean? It means until they fix the problem, sharing to facebook from any of our applications using the facebook API is not available.

We have submitted a bug report to facebook which has been confirmed by other app developers as well. We hope they resolve this issue quickly. In the meantime, posting to facebook using pretty much any iPhone application using Facebook’s official API is affected.

Updated 8:30AM EST 11/17/2010 – Facebook appears to be working normally now. All share functionality for third party apps has resumed normal function.

Twitter issue resolved…

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

After a couple of e-mails and a trouble ticket to Twitter, it appears they have resolved the issue that was causing the twitter views in all of our apps to appear blank.

We have also made changes to the code in our apps that should prevent blank twitter views in the event that Twitter suffers from the same issue in the future. These updates will be automatically included with the next update to all of our apps.

Thank you for your patience over the past few days. We really wish that it was possible to instantly update applications to prevent outages such as this, but unfortunately, all updates to our apps must go through the standard approval process for release to the App Store. We try to respond as quickly as possible, and we thank everyone who takes the time to let us know about issues inside of our apps using the “About” link inside every one of our apps.

Push Notifications Are Here…

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Over the next several days, you will notice timed updates to all of our apps based on our awesome Vlogger framework.  This update only has one purpose – enabling push notifications for new videos!

We’re very happy to release this service and the app updates and thank everyone for their patience while we have worked hard to implement this functionality.   We know that we’ve been promising it for a while, but we wanted to make sure that we had the simplest, most effective, most reliable and most flexible solution possible.

We will be releasing the apps one at a time over the next few days.  We are doing this to ensure that the push notification server that we have developed is stable, and to prevent mass chaos should something go awry.  Please bare with us and rest assured that push notifications in your favorite vlogger app will be available very soon – be sure to check the app store periodically over the next few days.
