UPDATED: Push Notification Delays for Mike Tompkins App

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

UPDATED 12/29/2010 5:00PM EST: This issue has been resolved.  Push notifications for Mike Tompkins’ content should now be functioning normally.  Thanks for your patience!

—– (Original Post included below)  ——–

Unlike most of our apps for YouTube content creators that monitor different “channels” for new videos, our Mike Tompkins official app uses new technology that we have created to monitor “playlists” for new videos. While this doesn’t sound much different, it’s an entirely different mechanism in place for sending push notifications for Mike’s content.

We’ve found a slight bug that caused the process to miss Mike’s latest new videos. We have manually sent a push notification to let anyone using the app know that there are new videos – but the notifications were not as “Immediate” as everyone is used to with our suite of apps.

We are working on fixing the issue now – and soon, push notifications for Mike’s content will be immediate just like the other apps we have in the store. Important Note – this bug is on the server side – once it’s repaired it will automatically work – you will not be required to update the app that you have already installed. We’ll update this posting as soon as the issue is resolved.

Thanks for your patience, and Happy Holidays!

Customize your tab bar – HOWTO

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

We get a lot of e-mail where people say “Hey, I love your app for <insert YouTube celeb name here>, but I don’t care about his/her facebook page – why don’t you put twitter on the main tab bar and move facebook to the more tab”.

Of course, this same e-mail comes in hundreds of different variations – everyone has their own preferences it seems.  The truth is, we can’t make everyone happy with the default order – which is why the tab bar in ALL of our YouTube apps is completely configurable.  Configuring the bar is identical to the way you can configure the iPod tab bar – to customize, simply:

  • Touch the “More” tab (the one on the far right)
  • Touch “Edit” in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Drag the icons from the listing up top down to the position where you would like them to appear on the tab bar OR move the existing four tabs around by dragging them into a new location
  • Press “Done”

Now, every time you start the app – the tabs will appear in the exact order YOU want them, not the order we provide them in 😉  Our default order is based upon statistics and/or the Content Creator’s request for the default layout – but you can order these any way you want.

Customize away! 🙂  Happy Holidays!

The Fine Brothers Interactive!

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

We really enjoy the Fine Brothers because they’re always doing something new and cool that pushes the bounds of what is possible on YouTube. This holiday season, they’ve done an interactive “Year in Review” style video that is awesome.

Unfortunately, as you know, Interactive videos are not possible (yet) on the mobile platforms like the iPhone, iPod, iPad, or Android. So even though iOS specific apps like our awesome Fine Brothers App facilitate staying up to date with their latest content on the go – they aren’t ideal for great interactive productions like this one.

We did, however, want to make sure that you get a chance to experience it as it was meant to be experienced – so we wanted to call it out on our website so you could view on a regular computer 😉

We think it’s pretty cool – what do you think?

Updates for all apps now available.

Monday, December 20th, 2010

We’ve released a small update for all of our apps that fixes an issue with the built-in Facebook browser. It was reported to us that the facebook browser would load, but when clicking on any of the tabs on the facebook fan page would cause the app to crash.

We discovered that Facebook updated their web code in a way that was causing our app to crash when navigating to these other sections. We have repaired this issue, and submitted updates for all of our apps that are now available in the store.

To update, simply visit the app store on your device or in iTunes, and update to the latest versions.

As always, please rate the apps again – each time a new update is released, Apple starts the “review” process over again. Thanks in advance!
